Week of December 15

Our Resources for the week are: Monday- Art Media, Tuesday- #1-18 Music and #19-37 P.E. and Wednesday- Art. Wednesday we are having a Winter Activity Day... Library Style! :) Our favorite Librarian, Mrs. Noah Thomas will be coming in to celebrate with us. Thursday is Pajama Day. The students may bring one stuffed animal, make sure it fits inside of their backpack. NO SLIPPERS please!
Reminder: There will be no homework sent home this week. We want everyone to be homework free over Winter Break. :)
ooh Monday is Calleigh's birthday, make sure to wish her a Happy Birthday. She will be joining the 6 year old club!!

MATH
Our focus shifts from weight to length this week in our measurement unit. We begin measuring the length of shoes and then objects around our classroom. Non-standard units such as sticks, cubes, paper clips are used to measure in Kindergarten. The important concept is that all the units you use to measure are the same or the outcome varies! We finish measuring with length right after the New Year. Also, number recognition to 20. We will be diving into addition and subtraction soon after we return from the winter break!

Over the break continue working on counting to 100 by tens and ones. Count along and do the Macarena with this video!

ELA
(English Language Arts~ Reading and Writing)
We are going to review all the sight words we have learned and focus on letter sounds: sound recognition, writing letters for sounds the teacher gives, beginning sounds, blending and rhyming.

Monday we will learn about India and celebrate Diwali. Tuesday we will learn about Germany and celebrate Christmas. Then on Wednesday, your child will bring home their "suitcase" and all the souvenirs we have been making! :)   The rest of the week we will focus on reading Holiday stories and retelling the stories with character names and events in the order that they happen.
Here is the story of the Gingerbread Man, watch the video and then practice retelling the story.

SCIENCE
Imagine our world with little or no gravity! The students had a little taste of this watching video clips from the space station. Here is the link to enjoy them at home!

This week will go by quickly and we wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Enjoy Winter Break and we will see the students back at school on Monday, January 5, 2015.
