MATH
We are taking the addition we learned and applying it to a new benchmark.
MAFS.K.OA.1.2: Solve addition and subtraction word problems and add and subtract within 10.  The students will learn different strategies to solve problems. Continue practicing math facts at home! They are getting really quick with their answers!!

ELA
The sight words we are focusing on are very, after, things and good. Make sure to practice letter sounds daily with your child- use lowercase letter cards. The word family for this week is -in(Only make real words... not pretend words.) Our blend for the week is fl-. We will continue practicing segmenting words, producing medial sounds for words (we will focus this week and next week on the I sound= short I~fig and long I~bike), substituting sounds for words at the end.

Our Reading lessons will be about identifying similarities and differences about a topic. (Last week we compared two stories that all the girls LOVED... so this week I thought I would gear our books towards the boys. :) Hope they enjoy it!) We are comparing and contrasting two machines: Dump Trucks and Backhoes.

Our Second Step lesson is about Problem Solving. :) We will focus on resolving conflicts with others to find a solution that both people can agree with. I searched for a video on Youtube and I was able to find a ton, but I really liked The Berenstain Bears! Enjoy!

Our Writing lessons will be comparing something with yourself. We will use the sentence started We are different because.... The students have done great sharing similarities between themselves and others, so I know they'll be great at this too!! Make sure your child writes using all their sounds (words need to be written with a beginning, middle and ending sound) and sight words. Along with spaces and punctuation.

 SCIENCE
We are working on a new benchmark this week : SC.K.14.2 Recognize that some books and other media portray animals and plants with characteristics and behaviors they do not have in real life. We will have fun comparing real animals and plants with imaginary animals and plants. I am sure the children will have fun with this science benchmark.

MATH
As we continue our addition unit, this week we are working with the number ten to master the Florida Benchmark, K. OA.1.4: For any number from 1-9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number. Students will find different combinations that make a whole group of ten. Here is a great interactive game using a ten-frame which is a tool we use often in class. Give it a try and let us know how you like it! http://illuminations.nctm.org/Activity.aspx?id=3565

ELA
The sight words we are focusing on are take, know, give and back. Make sure to practice letter sounds daily with your child- use lowercase letter cards. The word family for this week is -ot(Practice asking your child , "Who can we invite to the -ot House Party?" Please make sure all their responses are real words.) Our blend for the week is cl-. (Be ready for your child to think of lots of words!! Our Reading lessons will be about comparing and contrasting two similar stories. Our Kindergarten Continent of study is Africa, so I chose a story from our country of study and a fun comparing stoy. The stories are The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo and Walt Disney's Cinderella. Watch both video's below and discuss the similarities and differences with your child. :)

Our Writing lessons will go along with the stories we are reading. We will fill in the areas of a Venn Diagram showing how the stories are alike and how they are different- some students will draw pictures, some will write sentences and some will do a combination of the two. (You can see the Venn Diagram below.) We will also write sentences to match the information listed on the Venn Diagram using sentence stems:
The books are alike because ____________.
Both books have ____________.

The stories are different because ____________.
One story has a ____________ and the other story has a ____________..

SCIENCE
